Terms of Use

Last updated: 11/05/2025

Welcome to Clume. These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the Clume application, website and related services (collectively, “Clume”, “we”, “us”, or “our”). By creating an account, using the site, or storing data on Clume you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use Clume.

1. Service Overview

Clume provides temporary, end-to-end encrypted “Vaults” for storing and sharing files and notes. Vaults are zero-knowledge: encryption keys are generated and managed by users (client side). Clume provides an encrypted storage layer and smart expiry (automatic destruction) but does not have access to the plaintext of your Vault contents.

2. Zero-Knowledge Security — Limitations & User Responsibility

Clume is designed so that the service operator cannot view, decrypt, or recover Vault contents. This architecture improves privacy but imposes responsibilities and limits:

  • User-held keys: Only you hold your passwords, passphrases, and derived keys unless you choose to save them in a password manager or share them. If you lose these credentials, your data may be irrecoverable.
  • IVs & metadata: Initialization vectors (IVs) and non-sensitive metadata may be stored with encrypted objects. IVs are not secrets but must be unique per encryption operation.
  • No recovery guarantee: We cannot help recover encrypted Vault content if the user loses credentials or if the Vault expires or is deleted.
Important: You are solely responsible for the secrecy of passwords, passphrases, encryption keys and for deciding who to share Vault links or QR codes with. Clume cannot recover lost encryption credentials.

3. User Content & Liability

Users are fully responsible (100%) for content they upload, store or share via Clume. This includes—but is not limited to—sensitive documents, passwords, wallet keys, credit card numbers, private keys, and personal data.

By using Clume you represent and warrant that you have the right to upload and share the content you provide and that such content does not violate any law, third-party rights, or these Terms.

4. Financial & Wallet Disclaimer

Clume expressly disclaims any responsibility for financial loss, theft, or damage resulting from storing financial credentials, secret keys, wallet seeds, private keys or other sensitive financial information in a Vault. YOU ACCEPT FULL RESPONSIBILITY for using Vaults to store such items. Storing wallet keys or credentials in Clume is at your sole risk.

5. Smart Expiry & Permanent Deletion

Clume’s Smart Expiry feature permanently deletes Vaults and their contents automatically when their expiry triggers. Deletion is irreversible. You are responsible for retrieving any important data prior to expiry.

6. Payments, Subscriptions & Stripe

Payments & billing: Clume uses Stripe to process payments, manage subscriptions and handle recurring billing. By subscribing to a paid plan you authorize Clume and Stripe to charge your chosen payment method.

14-day free trial: When a free trial is offered, it lasts 14 days unless otherwise specified. You will not be charged during the 14-day free trial. If you do not cancel before the trial ends, your subscription will automatically convert to a paid plan and the payment method on file will be charged. To avoid charges, cancel your subscription in your account or via the Stripe-hosted customer portal before the trial expires.

Subscription management: Subscription changes, upgrades, cancellations and refunds are handled via Stripe. Clume may provide a link to the Stripe Customer Portal for self-service subscription management. Refunds are subject to our refund policy and Stripe’s terms.

  • By subscribing you authorize recurring charges until cancellation.
  • If you cancel during the free trial you will not be charged.
  • Clume is not responsible for billing disputes that must be handled with Stripe per Stripe’s policies.

7. Third-Party Services and Infrastructure

Clume relies on third-party providers including Firebase (Authentication, Firestore), Google Cloud Storage and other Google Cloud services for hosting and metadata. While these providers are highly secure, they are independent entities and outages, incidents or policy changes on their part can affect Clume.

8. Prohibited and Unlawful Use

You may not use Clume to store, transmit, or share content that violates applicable laws, including but not limited to child sexual abuse material (CSAM), malware, or stolen or pirated data.

Clume is a zero-knowledge, end-to-end encrypted service. We cannot access or review the contents of encrypted Vaults and do not monitor stored data. However, we reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts, restrict access, or cooperate with lawful investigations when we receive credible reports or valid legal requests concerning illegal use of the service.

9. Privacy & Data Handling

Minimal metadata (account email, plan, usage counters, encrypted metadata like IVs, file sizes, timestamps) is stored to operate the service. Vault contents are encrypted client-side before upload. We do not and cannot read Vault contents in plaintext.

Please see our Privacy Policy for more details on data collection, retention, and user rights.

10. Account Suspension & Termination

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or applicable law, or when required by legal process. We may also terminate inactive accounts in accordance with our policies. Termination may cause deletion of Vaults and associated data.

11. Warranties; Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, CLUME IS PROVIDED “AS IS.” WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. CLUME DOES NOT GUARANTEE UNINTERRUPTED ACCESS, DATA RECOVERY, OR ABSOLUTE SECURITY.

IN NO EVENT WILL CLUME, ITS AFFILIATES OR SERVICE PROVIDERS (INCLUDING GOOGLE OR STRIPE) BE LIABLE FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, PUNITIVE, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOSS OF FUNDS, LOSS OF DATA, LOST BUSINESS, OR OTHER PECUNIARY LOSS ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE.

12. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold Clume and its officers harmless from any claim, loss, liability, damages, costs and expenses arising out of your breach of these Terms or your misuse of the Service.

13. Changes to Terms

We may modify these Terms at any time. We will post a revised effective date at the top of this document. Continued use of Clume after changes means you accept the new Terms.
